Pierre Côté was born in Ottawa and attended French language elementary and secondary schools in Toronto. He obtained an Hon. B.A. in psychology and a Doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Ottawa. Pierre worked as a psychologist at the Burritts Rapids Correctional Centre, the Conseil des écoles publiques d’Ottawa-Carleton and the Ottawa Board of Education where he assumed leadership and bargaining responsibilities for OSSTF/FEESO. He joined the staff of OSSTF/FEESO as an executive assistant in 1997.
His responsibilities have included coordinator of French language services, media relations in both French and English and editor of Education Forum. Over the years, Pierre has been instrumental in organizing many Francophone bargaining units including the recently acquired 1,200-member unit at the University of Ottawa.
In 2005, he was promoted to the position of Director of the Communications/Political Action department and as Associate General Secretary in September, 2007. In 2010 he was appointed to the position of General Secretary.
