OSSTF/FEESO has an internal system for providing Certification Rating Statements to its teacher members. The Certification Rating Statement ensures that you will receive the correct level of salary for your qualifications. Your Certification Rating Statement will indicate whether you are in Group 1, 2, 3, or 4, Group 4 being the highest group. Without a Certification Rating Statement, the school board will pay a teacher at the lowest salary category.
Teachers are rated based on their academic backgrounds and trade records according to the Bylaws and Procedures governing the OSSTF/FEESO Certification Plan.
As a teacher candidate at an Ontario Faculty of Education in an English-language Intermediate/Senior or Technological Education program, you are an Associate Member of OSSTF/FEESO. As such, you will have the opportunity to attend an OSSTF/FEESO Certification presentation at your faculty. If you attend that session, you will receive an application form for a Letter of Assessment. This Letter of Assessment, once the Certification Department has assessed your academic and/or technical credentials, will tell you what pay “group” you will be in when you are hired as a contract or long term occasional teacher by a public secondary school. Once you are actually hired by a public secondary school board, converting your Letter of Assessment to a Certification Rating Statement can be done very quickly because the assessment of your credentials has already been done.
Please note that you must attend the presentation to receive the application form. The application forms, which include an embossed seal which cannot be duplicated, may not be picked up by someone else, nor are they available online. Please see the Related Attachment “Documents to bring to the OSSTF/FEESO Certification Presentation” so that you can be prepared to submit the completed application form and the necessary documentation at the end of the presentation. Any documents that you are unable to bring to the presentation may be submitted to the Certification Department afterwards but no later than August 31, 2017.
(Teacher candidates who are unable to attend the presentation will simply apply for a Certification Rating Statement once they are hired by a public secondary school board.)
