Letters to a Street Child by Andree Cazabon
October 1, 2013 — The 25 minute DVD video is a true story of a girl who runs away from her home in Ottawa and becomes a street child in Toronto. As the story unfolds, we hear her father’s voice reading the letters he wrote to her during the time she was away from home. The accompanying user guide gives further background information and ideas on how to use the film, not only in a classroom, but also with professionals as a resource to helping children in similar situations.
Letters to a Street Child deals with sensitive issues and the user guide offers advice on how facilitators prepare for the varied reactions that may occur from the viewers.
This project video is associated with the Letters of Hope project which encourages students to contribute letters about their own struggles that may be published in a book in the future.
