Our fourth Common Threads project, Hungry For Change, focuses on emerging issues on food and food security.
Working with FOODSHARE and the Centre for Studies in Food Security at Ryerson University, the members of the Common Threads team traveled to Belo Horizonte, Brazil and spoke to members of government, education, labour and business about critical issues of food and food security. Reflecting on the contemporary and progressive food policies they found in Brazil, the team returned to Canada to create relevant curriculum.
Offering a full five-course repast of educational materials, Hungry For Change offers lesson plans that engage students in topics such as food safety, agricultural ethics and technology, the politics of hunger, and great bio-fuel debate. Lesson plans include handouts, digital presentations, SmartBoard activities as well as a short documentary film.
