Quia
September 1, 2013 — Quia allows teachers to select questions from teacher-created question banks relating to a large number of topics. It also has games and activities to help students learn online.
Teachers are required to key in the names of students in order to access the gradebook results, but the site creates log-ins and passwords for students automatically. It can then track the amount of time students spend using the tools.
Great for grammar refreshers or ELL students. Quizzes can be created entirely from scratch or teachers may select questions from the world-wide bank and import them into quizzes or tests. It can be used to create online exams and it automatically marks the questions when students submit their answers. There are various forms of questions including true/false, multiple choice, short answer and essay questions. (Essay answers must be marked manually.)
Quia can provide class results for each question, allowing teachers to instantly see what topics need to be taught again to improve student learning. Membership costs about $50 per year for an individual teacher, but the time saved marking tests may make this worthwhile for some. Go to Quia.com and then select Quia online. There is a free 30 day trial.
